The Dane is a handmade British mid-century style sofa that balances a clean, modern outline with proper comfort. Each Dane sofa is handmade to order in Britain on a solid hardwood frame. The frame gives the sofa its weight and stability, helping it stay supportive and square through years of everyday use. This is traditional upholstery work, not lightweight or mass-produced furniture.

This is a deep-seated sofa, designed for relaxed sitting rather than upright perching. The seat depth allows you to settle back comfortably, while the gently reclined loose back cushions soften the posture without letting the sofa feel shapeless. It works well for longer evenings — reading, watching television or stretching out — without collapsing over time.

Seat and back cushions are removable. The seat cushions are built with a supportive foam core wrapped in ultra silk fibre, helping them hold their shape while providing consistent comfort. The overall feel is supportive rather than soft, which suits everyday use.

The Dane is upholstered in Italian-tanned distressed vintage leather. This is a 100% natural, semi-aniline leather with visible grain, markings and variation in tone. Each sofa will be slightly different. Over time the leather softens and lightens rather than darkening, developing character instead of shine. All leather is oiled and waxed before delivery to nourish the hide and provide initial protection.

Hand twin-stitched seams and neat piping finish the sofa cleanly without making it decorative. Tapered hardwood legs lift the sofa visually, reinforcing the mid-century influence while keeping the overall footprint practical for British homes.

Available in a range of colours, from warm Tan and Brown through to Black, Red and Green, the Dane adapts easily to different interiors while keeping the same relaxed proportions.

Like all our UK-made sofas, the Dane is built to be kept. The frame and upholstery can be re-stuffed, repaired or reupholstered in the future, rather than replaced. It’s a straightforward, well-made sofa designed for long-term comfort and value.

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.

• Clean stains with light warm soapy water and wash again with clean cold water. Pat dry or lightly with a hair dryer. Then buff up.
• Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent possible fading.
• Do not use abrasive and chemical materials such as sandpaper, alcohol, bleach for cleaning the surfaces.
• Protect from contact with sharp and hard objects.
• The leather can be cared for once a year, using a semi-analine cream added sparingly and buffed up.
