Detailed Description

The Burlington is a compact handmade British club sofa, designed around the proportions of traditional club seating rather than modern deep lounging sofas. It’s a proper 2-seater that feels settled and supportive without taking over the room, making it well suited to smaller living rooms, terraces and snug spaces.

Each Burlington sofa is handmade to order in Britain on a solid hardwood frame. The frame gives the sofa its structure and stability, helping it remain supportive and square through years of regular use. This is traditional upholstery, not mass-produced or lightweight furniture.

As a club sofa, the Burlington is not deep seated. The seat depth and back angle are designed to keep the sit upright and comfortable rather than slouched. It’s a sofa intended for everyday sitting — reading, conversation, watching television — rather than stretching out. The gently arched back and broad scroll arms give structure and support, keeping the proportions balanced and practical.

The seat uses two separate cushions, built with a supportive foam core wrapped in fibre. This gives consistent comfort and helps the cushions hold their shape over time. The seat cushions are removable, with covers suitable for dry cleaning.

The Burlington is upholstered in Italian-tanned distressed vintage leather. This is a 100% natural, semi-aniline leather with visible grain, markings and variation in tone. Each sofa will be slightly different. Over time the leather softens and lightens rather than darkening, developing character instead of shine. All leather is oiled and waxed before delivery to nourish the hide and provide initial protection.

Twin stitching and neat piping are used throughout for strength and clean definition, reinforcing the shape without making the sofa feel decorative or fussy.

Built in Britain and intended for long-term use, the Burlington is designed to be repaired, re-stuffed or re-upholstered in the future rather than replaced. It’s a straightforward, well-made vintage leather sofa that fits naturally into everyday British living.

Sustainability

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.
