A guide from the people who make them

Choosing Your Sofa

Start with The Room

A sofa should be chosen for the room it will sit in and the way you live in it.
Before you order, check the route the sofa will take from the point of entry to
the room of your choice. Measure the door widths, the hall widths, the stair turn
and the stair ceiling heights, so that we can deliver it without difficulty.

 Choose Your Size

Our sofas come in 2, 3 and 4-seater sizes, and in extra large on some models. A 2-seater suits a smaller room or a snug, a 3-seater suits most living rooms, and a 4-seater or extra large gives space for the whole family.

Choose Your Style

Chesterfield:

Deep buttoned backs, rolled arms and a formal, traditional shape. Our Chesterfields suit a larger sitting room, a study or a library, and our smaller sizes suit a snug.

Deep seated:

Generous cushions and a relaxed seat, made for sitting backwith your feet up.

Hepburn and Harris:

Rounder arms and a lower profile, made for curling up rather than sitting upright.

Midcentury:

Clean retro lines that sit well beside a Chesterfield, much like a contemporary extension added to an old house.

Choose Your Material: Leather

Leather is hard-wearing, easy to look after and gets better with age. Our semi aniline Distressed Vintage Leather keeps the natural markings of the hide, so every sofa is individual.

Choose Your Material: Harris Tweed

Harris Tweed is handwoven wool, warm in winter and breathable in summer, and is available in a herringbone and a hunter check.

Our Guide to Harris Tweed

 Think about how you sit

A deeper seat and a lower back suit relaxing, while a higher back suits sitting up to talk and read. Seat height matters too, so if you find low seats hard to get out of, check the seat height as well as the width. Traditional sofas generally have a seat height of around 45 to 48cm, while a contemporary sofa sits lower at 35 to 40cm. Our seats are filled with high-quality foam wrapped in soft fibre, which gives a comfortable, supportive seat that settles in with use.

Built To Last

Every sofa is made to order on a solid hardwood frame, cut and upholstered by hand in Lancashire. The frame is made in our workshop in Wales and carries a 15-year guarantee. General wear and tear is not included.
