Detailed Description

The Hunter is a proper handmade Chesterfield sofa built in the old shape, with a fully buttoned back, rolled arms and a deep seat that gives it a settled, substantial feel. It is the sort of vintage style sofa that works because the proportions are right. It sits comfortably without looking oversized, and the deep seating makes it easy to live with day to day.

This is a British-made sofa built on a solid hardwood frame, then upholstered using traditional upholstery methods. That matters more than any clever wording. A good frame keeps the shape true, stops the sofa feeling loose over time, and gives you something worth reupholstering years down the line. That is the difference between a made to order sofa and something mass-produced and imported to hit a price.

The seat cushions are supportive rather than soft. They are designed to hold their shape and stay comfortable for everyday use without collapsing. Each seat cushion is built with a foam core wrapped with ultra silk fibre, which gives a practical balance of comfort and support. The sit is deep seated, so you get a relaxed seating position without the sofa feeling sloppy.

The buttoning is traditionally hand-buttoned using traditional techniques, which is what gives the Chesterfield its shape through the back and inside arms. On the outside, the Hunter has a clean, plain finish with traditionally hand-studded nailhead trim applied by hand. That keeps the look neat and honest. It does not need overworking.

The distressed vintage leather used on this handmade sofa is semi-aniline, 100% natural leather, and tanned in Italy. It will show natural markings, scars and variation across the hide, which is exactly what you want on a natural leather sofa like this. No two pieces come out exactly alike, and each piece is unique and individual. Over time the leather lightens rather than darkens, and the surface develops more character with use. Before delivery, all leather is oiled and waxed to nourish the hide and give it initial protection.

As a vintage leather sofa, the Hunter has the right look from the start, but it is built as a new British-made sofa to meet modern expectations. You get the shape and character of an old piece, but with a solid hardwood frame, proper upholstery, UK fire safety compliance, and the reassurance that it has been handmade to order in Britain.

Leather and sheepskin are by-products of the farming industry, so using them makes practical use of materials that already exist and helps minimise waste. Combined with traditional manufacturing methods, British-made production, and lower shipping mileage than imported furniture, it is a straightforward way of supporting British jobs and upholstery skills without making a song and dance about it.

Sustainability

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.
