The Hector Chesterfield is a traditional British Chesterfield sofa built properly, without shortcuts. It has a deep seat, a low back, and the balanced proportions that define a true Chesterfield. This is a handmade vintage style sofa designed to be lived with for decades, not replaced after a few years.

Each Hector sofa is handmade to order in Britain on a solid hardwood frame. The frame gives the sofa its weight and rigidity, keeping it supportive and square over years of everyday use. This is traditional upholstery work, built for longevity, not mass-produced imported furniture.

Both the back and the seat are fully hand-buttoned using traditional techniques. The seat is fixed and buttoned rather than loose or removable, which helps the sofa wear evenly and keeps the shape consistent over time. Fixed seating is a key part of the structured, tailored look that defines a proper Chesterfield sofa.

The arms roll at the same height as the back, another defining feature of a true Chesterfield. The nailhead trim is traditionally hand-studded, applied one stud at a time along the arms and base. This is slower work, but it allows the trim to follow the natural lines of the frame for a cleaner, more accurate finish than stud strips.

The Hector is upholstered in Italian-tanned distressed vintage leather. This is a 100% natural, semi-aniline leather with visible grain, markings, scars, and variation in tone. No two sofas will look the same. Over time the leather softens and lightens rather than darkening, developing character without becoming shiny or worn-looking. All leather is oiled and waxed before delivery to nourish the hide and provide initial protection.

Available as a 2 seater, 3 seater, or 4 seater sofa, each piece is a British-made sofa, handmade to order with a typical lead time of 4–6 weeks.

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.

• Clean stains with light warm soapy water and wash again with clean cold water. Pat dry or lightly with a hair dryer. Then buff up.
• Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent possible fading.
• Do not use abrasive and chemical materials such as sandpaper, alcohol, bleach for cleaning the surfaces.
• Protect from contact with sharp and hard objects.
• The leather can be cared for once a year, using a semi-analine cream added sparingly and buffed up.
