The Eccentric Professor is a compact handmade leather club chair with a proper members’ club feel. It’s designed for rooms where space matters but comfort still needs to be right — fireside corners, libraries, studies and smaller sitting rooms.

This is a true club chair in both shape and posture. The rolled arms and upright proportions create an enclosing, supportive sit rather than a slouched one. You sit in the chair, comfortably and naturally, with enough structure to support reading, conversation or long evenings without pushing you forward or letting you sink too far back.

Each chair is handmade to order in our British workshop, starting with a solid hardwood frame that’s traditionally jointed for strength. Upholstery is carried out using time-served methods, so the structure beneath the cushions remains firm and dependable over years of everyday use. It’s a chair that feels reassuringly solid from the first sit and keeps that feel over time.

The distressed vintage leather is tanned in Italy and finished to retain its natural grain, markings and tonal variation. From the outset it has character without stiffness. With regular use, the leather softens and lightens, developing a relaxed, lived-in patina rather than becoming shiny. These changes are part of what gives the chair depth and individuality.

The seat cushion is supportive rather than deep, offering comfort that suits reading and everyday use without encouraging a slouched posture. Twin stitching and piping give the chair a clean, tailored edge, while the nailhead trim is used in the traditional way — enhancing detail, following the natural lines of the frame, and finishing the shape cleanly without making the chair feel decorative or fussy.

Like all our British-made chairs, the Eccentric Professor is built to be kept. The frame and upholstery can be re-stuffed, repaired and reupholstered in the future rather than replaced. It’s a straightforward, well-made club chair — built properly, used often, and designed for long-term use.

• Clean stains with light warm soapy water and wash again with clean cold water. Pat dry or lightly with a hair dryer. Then buff up.
• Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent possible fading.
• Do not use abrasive and chemical materials such as sandpaper, alcohol, bleach for cleaning the surfaces.
• Protect from contact with sharp and hard objects.
• The leather can be cared for once a year, using a semi-analine cream added sparingly and buffed up.
