This is the original Eccentric Professor, the leather version the rest of the range is built around, and it's the one that shows most clearly what our leather does over time. It's cut and fitted by hand from a semi-aniline hide tanned in Italy from natural European cattle skins, so no two chairs carry quite the same scars and grain. Beneath the leather sits a breathable cotton pad rather than a sealed foam block, which keeps the hide from trapping heat and helps it age the way good leather should, lightening gradually rather than cracking or wearing thin. The shape is a deep, rounded club chair, low enough to sink into properly rather than perch on the edge of, built on a solid hardwood frame made to order in Britain. Available in tan, black, brown, green or red. It suits a reading corner as well as it does a sitting room, somewhere it actually gets used rather than left alone to look at. Lead time is four to six weeks, and every piece meets UK fire safety regulations for domestic upholstered furniture.

• Clean stains with light warm soapy water and wash again with clean cold water. Pat dry or lightly with a hair dryer. Then buff up.
• Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent possible fading.
• Do not use abrasive and chemical materials such as sandpaper, alcohol, bleach for cleaning the surfaces.
• Protect from contact with sharp and hard objects.
• The leather can be cared for once a year, using a semi-analine cream added sparingly and buffed up.
