Detailed Description

The Jet is a compact handmade leather armchair with a clear mid-century influence. Its wraparound tub shape creates a natural sense of enclosure, while the low, clean profile keeps the chair visually light. It’s designed for modern living spaces where floor space matters, but comfort still needs to be right.

Each Jet armchair is handmade to order in Britain, built around a solid hardwood frame that’s traditionally jointed for strength and stability. The frame provides the structure you don’t see but feel every time you sit down — firm, balanced, and built to take regular use rather than occasional sitting.

The upholstery is Italian-tanned distressed vintage leather, chosen for its natural grain and the way it ages with use. From the outset, you’ll see variation in tone and texture. Over time, the leather softens and lightens, developing a relaxed, lived-in patina rather than becoming shiny or flat. Every chair will age slightly differently, which is exactly how proper leather should behave.

The seat and inside back feature diamond stitching, a classic mid-century detail. While primarily decorative, the stitching helps the leather settle evenly and reduces excessive movement in the panels over time, keeping the chair looking tidy as it’s used. The stitching adds interest without overpowering the clean shape of the chair.

The seat is deep and supportive, with a gently reclined back that suits longer periods of sitting. It’s comfortable for reading, listening to music or winding down at the end of the day, without encouraging a slouched or overly casual posture. Slim arms and quality upholstery fillings keep the sit balanced and supportive.

Hardwood block feet give the Jet a grounded feel while maintaining a clean, understated look. Despite its compact size, the chair doesn’t feel lightweight or flimsy — it’s a British-made armchair designed to be used daily and kept for years.

Choose Black for a sharper, modern edge, Brown for classic depth, or Tan for a warmer tone that mellows beautifully with age. Like all our furniture, the Jet is built to be serviced, repaired and reupholstered over time rather than replaced.

Sustainability

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.
