Detailed Description

This is a straightforward, well-proportioned handmade sofa built the way they used to be, but made to order here in Britain.

The Harris is a deep seated vintage style sofa with a proper sitting depth. You don’t perch on it—you sit into it. The seat cushions are supportive rather than soft, built with a foam core and wrapped in fibre so they keep their shape without collapsing. It’s the sort of seat you can use every day without it going slack after a year.

The frame is solid hardwood throughout. That’s what carries the weight and takes the wear. It’s the part you don’t see, but it’s the reason the sofa lasts.

The leather is where most people notice the difference. This is semi-aniline, 100% natural leather, tanned in Italy. It isn’t corrected or uniform. You’ll see natural markings, scars and variation across the hide. That’s intentional. Each piece comes out slightly different, and that’s what gives it a proper vintage leather sofa look rather than something flat and manufactured.

Over time, the leather will lighten rather than darken. It softens, picks up character, and settles into the shape of the sofa. Before it leaves the workshop, the leather is oiled and waxed to nourish it and give it some initial protection.

The arms are fixed and shaped to sit comfortably under your arm rather than stand upright. There’s a subtle roll to them, finished with traditionally hand-studded nailhead trim applied one at a time. It’s not decorative for the sake of it—it’s part of how these sofas have always been finished.

Covers on the seat and back cushions are removable, which makes a difference over the years. You can clean them properly rather than working around fixed upholstery.

It’s a British-made sofa built for use, not just for show. The sort of piece that improves with wear rather than wearing out.

Sustainability

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.
