Detailed Description

The Hunter is a handmade Chesterfield sofa built in the traditional deep-buttoned shape, with rolled arms, a fully buttoned back and a deep seated design that gives it a comfortable, settled feel. The combination of Harris Tweed and distressed vintage leather gives it the look of an older country house piece without trying too hard. It feels solid, practical and lived-in from the start.

This British-made sofa is built on a solid hardwood frame and upholstered using traditional upholstery methods. That is the part that matters most over time. A properly built frame keeps the sofa sitting square and firm, stops movement developing through the body, and gives you something worth maintaining years down the line. Unlike lightweight imported furniture, this is built as a made to order sofa intended for regular use and long-term ownership.

The seat cushions are removable, with covers suitable for dry cleaning. Each cushion is built using a foam core wrapped with ultra silk fibre, giving a supportive sit rather than a soft, sinking feel. The cushions are designed to hold their shape properly while still being comfortable for everyday use. The deep seating gives the sofa a relaxed feel without becoming loose or oversized.

The back and arms are traditionally hand-buttoned using traditional techniques, which is what creates the depth and shape through the upholstery. The front rail is finished with traditionally hand-studded nailhead trim applied by hand, keeping the detailing neat and in proportion with the rest of the sofa.

The leather used throughout is distressed vintage semi-aniline leather made from 100% natural leather tanned in Italy. Natural markings, scars and colour variation are all part of the hide and should be expected. No two sofas will ever look completely identical, and each piece is unique and individual. Over time the leather lightens rather than darkens, developing more variation and character through use. Before delivery, all leather is oiled and waxed to nourish the hide and provide initial protection.

The Harris Tweed used on this handmade sofa is hand-woven in the Outer Hebrides using traditional methods and is supplied with the official Harris Tweed authentication label stitched to the furniture. The wool gives the sofa a dry, textured finish that works particularly well against the aged leather. It wears naturally, ages well and suits the shape of a traditional Chesterfield properly.

As a vintage leather sofa built with Harris Tweed, The Hunter works well in both traditional and more modern interiors because the materials are honest and straightforward. It has the look of an older piece, but with the reassurance of modern upholstery standards, UK fire safety compliance, and proper British-made construction.

Leather and wool are by-products of the farming industry, so using them makes practical use of materials that already exist and helps minimise waste. Combined with traditional manufacturing methods, British-made production, and reduced shipping mileage compared to imported furniture, it is a straightforward way of supporting British jobs and upholstery skills.

Sustainability

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.
