Detailed Description

The Denbigh Wingback Armchair is a traditional British wingback built properly, using the same upholstery methods we’ve relied on for decades. It’s a classic shape with balanced proportions, designed for comfort, support, and long-term use rather than fashion-led trends.

Each Denbigh armchair is handmade to order in Britain on a solid hardwood frame. The frame gives the chair its weight and rigidity, keeping it supportive and stable over years of everyday use. This is traditional upholstery work, not lightweight mass-produced furniture.

The high back and shaped wings provide proper support for the shoulders and head, making the Denbigh a good reading or fireside chair. Although the chair is deep seated, the proportions remain supportive rather than slouched, allowing you to sit back comfortably without losing structure. Like original vintage wingbacks, it’s designed for sitting properly rather than sinking in.

The seat cushion is removable. The cushion is built with a supportive foam core wrapped in ultra silk fibre, designed to hold its shape and provide consistent comfort over time rather than softening or collapsing. The overall feel is supportive and practical for everyday use.

The Denbigh is upholstered in Italian-tanned distressed vintage leather. This is a 100% natural, semi-aniline leather with visible grain, markings, scars, and variation in tone. Each chair will be slightly different. Over time the leather softens and lightens rather than darkening, developing character instead of becoming shiny or uniform. All leather is oiled and waxed before delivery to nourish the hide and provide initial protection.

Finished with solid wood Queen Anne legs, hand twin-stitched seams for strength and detail, and neat piping, the Denbigh is a British-made wingback armchair designed to be repaired, re-covered, and kept in use for decades.

Available in Tan, Brown, Black, Green, or Red distressed vintage leather. Handmade to order in Britain with a typical lead time of 4–6 weeks.

Sustainability

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.
