Detailed Description

The Burlington is our practical take on a traditional British club armchair. It’s compact enough for modern homes, but still has the grounded, settled feel you expect from a proper handmade chair. The proportions are upright and supportive rather than deep or slouched, making it comfortable for everyday use without dominating the room.

Each armchair is handmade to order in our British workshop. We start with a solid hardwood frame, traditionally jointed for strength, then upholster it by hand using methods that have been proven over decades. This isn’t flat-pack or production-line furniture — it’s built steadily and properly so it holds its shape and comfort over time.

You can choose between two upholstery options. Our distressed vintage leather is tanned in Italy and finished to retain natural grain and variation. It arrives with a relaxed look and softens and lightens with use, rather than darkening or becoming shiny. Natural differences in grain and colour are expected and add to the character of the chair as it ages.

Alternatively, the Burlington is available in genuine Harris Tweed, handwoven from pure virgin wool in the Outer Hebrides and paired with leather trim on the arms and back. Harris Tweed is naturally breathable, warm and hard-wearing, making it well suited to everyday seating throughout the year.

The seat uses a single loose cushion filled with fibre-wrapped foam, giving firm, supportive comfort rather than a deep lounge sit. The scroll arms and gently arched back provide structure and support, making the Burlington a good choice for reading, conversation, or longer periods of sitting.

Built in Britain and intended for long-term use, the Burlington is a straightforward, well-made armchair — designed to be lived with rather than replaced.

Sustainability

Harris Tweed is hand-woven from pure virgin wool in the Outer Hebrides, using traditional methods passed down through generations. The wool is a renewable natural fibre, and every piece of Harris Tweed is produced under strict local regulation. By upholstering our furniture in Harris Tweed and making each piece in Britain, we support rural industries, skilled craftsmanship, and reduced transport compared to imported furniture.
