Detailed Description

The Burlington is a straightforward handmade sofa built around traditional club sofa proportions. It’s a compact 2-seater that doesn’t try to do too much. It sits upright, keeps its shape, and fits comfortably into smaller rooms without feeling oversized.

This is not a deep seated sofa. Like most proper club designs, the seat depth and back angle keep you sitting supported rather than slouched. It suits everyday use — reading, talking, watching television — rather than stretching out. If you want something you sink into, this isn’t that. If you want something that stays comfortable and holds you properly, it works well.

Each piece is made to order in Britain on a solid hardwood frame. That gives it the weight and structure you need for long-term use. It’s the sort of frame that keeps the sofa square and usable over time, rather than shifting or softening like lighter, imported furniture tends to.

The seat cushions are built with a foam core wrapped in ultra silk fibre, with pocketing where needed to help them keep their shape. They’re supportive rather than soft, designed for everyday use without collapsing. The covers are removable, so they can be dry cleaned and maintained properly over time.

Upholstery is where this model stands apart. The leather options use a semi-aniline, 100% natural leather tanned in Italy. It carries all the usual markings, scars and variation you expect from proper natural hides. No two sofas will match exactly. The leather will lighten over time rather than darken, and it’s oiled and waxed before delivery to feed the hide and give it some initial protection.

Alongside this, there are Harris Tweed options. The tweed is hand-woven in the Outer Hebrides and comes with its authentication label stitched into the piece. It’s a hard-wearing fabric that suits this type of sofa well, particularly when paired with leather arms and back. The combination gives you durability where it matters and texture through the seat and base.

Available combinations include:

Bracken Brown Herringbone Harris Tweed with Tan or Brown leather
Bracken Green Cheque Harris Tweed with Tan or Brown leather

The stitching is all hand twin-stitched, with piping used to define the shape without overcomplicating it. It’s there for strength first, appearance second.

Like all our British-made sofas, the Burlington is built with the expectation it will be kept. It can be re-covered, re-stuffed, and repaired properly over time. That’s the difference — it’s made to last, not to be replaced.

Sustainability

Harris Tweed is hand-woven from pure virgin wool in the Outer Hebrides, using traditional methods passed down through generations. The wool is a renewable natural fibre, and every piece of Harris Tweed is produced under strict local regulation. By upholstering our furniture in Harris Tweed and making each piece in Britain, we support rural industries, skilled craftsmanship, and reduced transport compared to imported furniture.
