Detailed Description

The Queen Anne is a compact handmade British sofa rooted firmly in traditional upholstery. It takes familiar, time-proven elements — the wingback Chesterfield shape, deep buttoning and Queen Anne legs — and brings them together in a size that works comfortably in smaller rooms without losing presence or character.

The upholstery combination is practical as well as traditional. The main body of the sofa is upholstered in genuine Harris Tweed, handwoven from pure virgin wool in the Outer Hebrides. It’s a durable, breathable cloth with natural texture and variation, chosen for warmth and longevity rather than uniform appearance.

The arms and outer back are finished in Italian-tanned distressed vintage leather. These are the areas that see the most contact, and the leather provides structure and protection while giving a clean contrast against the tweed. The leather shows natural grain and markings from the outset and, with everyday use, softens and lightens rather than becoming dark or shiny.

Each sofa is handmade to order in Britain, starting with a solid hardwood frame that’s traditionally jointed for strength and stability. From there, the sofa is upholstered by hand using time-served methods that give proper structure beneath the surface, rather than relying on lightweight padding or shortcuts.

The deep diamond buttoning across the backrest isn’t just for appearance. Each button is pulled through by hand, helping the upholstery settle correctly, hold its shape and spread wear evenly over time. This is a key part of why the back remains supportive and tidy rather than becoming loose with age.

The loose seat cushions provide a supportive, upright sit rather than a slouched one. Combined with the winged back and scroll arms, the Queen Anne works particularly well as a fireside sofa, reading room piece or in quieter living spaces where comfort and posture matter as much as appearance.

Details are deliberately restrained. The traditional nailhead trim follows the natural lines of the frame and helps finish the shape cleanly without making the sofa feel decorative or fussy. The Queen Anne legs lift the sofa slightly, keeping the overall look balanced despite the solid build.

Like all our UK-made sofas, the Queen Anne is built to be kept. The frame and upholstery can be repaired, re-stuffed and reupholstered over time, extending its life rather than replacing it. It’s a traditional sofa made properly — practical, characterful and designed for long-term use.
The upholstery pairing is deliberate. The main body of the sofa is upholstered in genuine Harris Tweed, handwoven from pure virgin wool in the Outer Hebrides. It’s a robust, breathable cloth with natural texture and variation, chosen for warmth and durability rather than uniformity. The arms and outer back are finished in Italian-tanned distressed vintage leather, reinforcing the areas that take the most wear while providing contrast and structure.

The leather arrives with natural grain variation and markings, and with everyday use it softens and lightens, developing a relaxed patina rather than becoming shiny. It’s leather selected to age honestly, not stay pristine.

Each British-made sofa is built to order in our workshop, starting with a solid hardwood frame that’s traditionally jointed for strength and stability. From there, it’s upholstered by hand using time-served methods that give proper structure beneath the surface — not lightweight padding or shortcuts.

The deep diamond buttoning across the backrest isn’t just decorative. Each button is pulled through by hand, helping the upholstery sit correctly, spread wear evenly and maintain the sofa’s shape over time. This is a defining feature of proper Chesterfield-style upholstery and one of the reasons the back stays tight rather than becoming loose or baggy with age.

The loose seat cushions provide a supportive, upright sit rather than a slouched one. Combined with the winged back and scrolled arms, the Queen Anne works particularly well as a fireside sofa, reading-room seat or in quieter living spaces where comfort and posture both matter.

Details are deliberately traditional. Hand-applied nailhead trim follows the natural lines of the arms and wings, and the Queen Anne legs lift the sofa with a light, elegant stance that keeps it visually balanced despite its solid build.

Like all our UK-made sofas, the Queen Anne is built to be kept. The frame and upholstery can be re-stuffed, repaired and reupholstered over time, extending its life rather than replacing it. It’s a traditional sofa made properly — practical, characterful and designed for long-term use.
