Detailed Description

The Howie is a straightforward, well-built handmade sofa that relies on proper materials and proportions rather than anything overdone. It’s a deep seated piece, so you sit into it comfortably, but the seat remains supportive rather than soft, which is what matters with regular use.

The frame is solid hardwood throughout. That’s where the durability comes from, particularly important if the sofa is going to be used daily rather than occasionally.

The seat cushions are built with a foam core and wrapped in ultra silk fibre. This gives a comfortable top layer but keeps the structure underneath, so the cushions hold their shape instead of collapsing over time. The covers are removable, which makes cleaning and general upkeep more practical.

The upholstery is where this piece stands out. The Harris Tweed is hand-woven in the Outer Hebrides and supplied with its authentication label. It’s a hard-wearing fabric with natural variation in the weave, so it doesn’t look flat or uniform.

There are two tweed options available:

Bracken Brown – a traditional herringbone Harris Tweed
Bracken Green – a checked Harris Tweed

These are paired with distressed vintage leather in either tan or brown, giving four combinations:

Bracken Brown & Tan
Bracken Brown & Brown
Bracken Green & Tan
Bracken Green & Brown

The leather is a semi-aniline, 100% natural leather, tanned in Italy. It will show natural markings, scars, and variation, which is part of the material rather than a flaw. Each piece is slightly different. The leather is oiled and waxed before delivery and will lighten over time with use.

The back is traditionally hand-buttoned, which helps keep the upholstery pulled tight into the frame. It’s done properly so it holds its shape rather than loosening over time.

Overall, this is a British-made sofa built in the traditional way. It’s designed to be lived with — not just to look right when it arrives, but to stay right after years of use.

By upholstering our furniture in Harris Tweed and making each piece in Britain, we support rural industries, skilled craftsmanship, and reduced transport compared to imported furniture.
