Detailed Description

The Queen Anne Wingback is a true British classic armchair, built in a shape that has earned its place by the fire for generations. The high protective wings and deeply buttoned back give it that unmistakable wingback profile, while the scroll arms and cushioned seat keep it comfortable rather than formal.

This is a chair designed for proper sitting. The wings help hold warmth, the back gives steady support, and the loose seat cushion offers comfort without slumping. It’s well suited to fireside rooms, reading spaces and quieter corners where you want to settle in rather than perch.

Each British-made wingback armchair is built to order in our workshop, starting with a solid hardwood frame that’s traditionally jointed for strength. We upholster by hand using time-served methods, so the structure beneath the leather or tweed feels solid and dependable. You can feel the difference straight away — it’s supportive, not springy or soft in the wrong places.

You can choose between two upholstery options. Our vintage leather armchair version uses Italian-tanned distressed leather, selected for its natural grain and the way it softens and lightens with use, developing a rich, lived-in patina rather than becoming shiny. Natural marks and variation are part of the leather and add to its character over time.

Alternatively, the chair is available in genuine Harris Tweed, handwoven in the Outer Hebrides, paired with premium leather. The tweed brings warmth, texture and breathability, while the leather adds structure and durability where it’s needed. It’s a traditional combination that wears in gently and lasts.

Hand-applied nailhead trim and stained Queen Anne legs finish the chair with classic detail, without making it feel overdone. Despite its heritage look, the Queen Anne sits comfortably in both period homes and more modern interiors.

Like all our UK-made armchairs, this is a piece built to be kept. The frame and upholstery can be re-stuffed, repaired and reupholstered in the future, extending its life rather than replacing it. It’s traditional furniture made properly — practical, comfortable and designed for decades of use.

Sustainability

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.
