Detailed Description

The Queen Anne is one of those wingback shapes that doesn’t need reinventing. It’s a proper handmade British wingback armchair, built in a form that’s been trusted for generations because it works. The wings give a sense of enclosure, the high back provides steady support, and the proportions make it a chair you naturally settle into rather than perch on.

Each Queen Anne armchair is handmade to order in Britain on a solid hardwood frame. The frame gives the chair its weight and stability, keeping it supportive and square through years of everyday use. This is traditional upholstery work, built to last rather than designed for occasional use.

The backrest is traditionally hand-buttoned in a Chesterfield style using traditional techniques. The buttoning isn’t just decorative — it plays a practical role in helping the upholstery hold its shape and wear evenly over time, preventing the back from loosening or sagging with use.

The Queen Anne is deep seated, but the sit remains upright and supportive rather than laid back. It’s designed for proper sitting — reading, conversation, or long evenings by the fire — without feeling stiff or formal.

The chair is upholstered in Italian-tanned distressed vintage leather. This is a 100% natural, semi-aniline leather with visible grain, markings, scars and variation in tone. Each chair will be slightly different. Over time the leather softens and lightens rather than darkening, developing a worn-in character instead of becoming shiny or uniform. All leather is oiled and waxed before delivery to nourish the hide and provide initial protection.

The loose seat cushion is removable. It’s built with a supportive foam core wrapped in ultra silk fibre, giving a comfortable, sink-in feel while still holding its shape and providing consistent support over time.

Traditionally applied nailhead trim along the arms and edges, set one stud at a time to follow the natural lines of the chair. Solid hardwood Queen Anne legs complete the piece, giving it a lighter stance without making it feel delicate.

This is a British-made wingback armchair designed to be kept. It can be re-stuffed, repaired and re-covered in the future rather than replaced, which is exactly how furniture of this type should be treated.

Each chair is handmade to order in Britain with a typical lead time of 4–6 weeks.

Sustainability

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.
