Detailed Description

The Hepburn is a generously proportioned handmade armchair designed for proper comfort. It’s larger than a standard club chair, with a curved shape that feels enclosing and settled without becoming slack or shapeless. This is a chair for sitting back and staying put — whether that’s for reading, fireside use or a quiet evening in.

Each armchair is handmade to order in our British workshop, starting with a solid hardwood frame that’s traditionally jointed for strength. From there, it’s upholstered by hand using established methods that give proper structure beneath the cushions. You feel that solidity straight away — supportive, balanced and built to hold its shape through everyday use.

You can choose between two proven upholstery options. Our distressed vintage leather is tanned in Italy and finished to retain natural grain and variation. It arrives with a relaxed look and, with regular use, softens and lightens rather than darkening, developing a lived-in patina over time. Changes in tone and markings are part of real leather and expected.

Alternatively, the Hepburn is available in genuine Harris Tweed, handwoven from pure virgin wool in the Outer Hebrides. Harris Tweed is naturally breathable, warm and hard-wearing, making it comfortable for longer periods of sitting. It wears in gradually while keeping its structure and character.

The seat is supportive rather than slouched, paired with a curved back that gives an enclosing, comfortable feel. Details such as the turned front legs and studded scroll arms keep the look traditional and grounded without overpowering the design. Despite its generous proportions, the Hepburn sits comfortably in living rooms, libraries and fireside corners.

Like all our UK-made armchairs, the Hepburn is built for long-term use. It’s a straightforward, well-made piece — designed to be lived with rather than replaced.

Sustainability

The leather used in our furniture is a by-product of the farming industry. Using the hide ensures more of the animal is used rather than wasted. Our sofas are made using traditional upholstery methods and solid hardwood frames, which prioritise repair and re-covering over replacement. By making each leather sofa to order in Britain, we reduce unnecessary transport and support long-established British furniture making & upholstery skills.
