This is a proper Chesterfield footstool, built the same way as our sofas and armchairs rather than treated as an afterthought. It’s handmade in Britain using traditional upholstery methods and finished with a fully buttoned top.

The deep buttoning is pulled through by hand, giving the surface its shape and allowing the leather to settle naturally over time. It’s comfortable underfoot and firm enough to use as an occasional seat when needed.

We upholster the footstool in distressed vintage semi-aniline leather. This is a natural leather finish, not heavily corrected or coated. You’ll see variation in colour, grain and marking from the outset. With use, the leather will lighten rather than darken, wearing through gently on the high-contact areas and softening as it ages.

The frame and legs are made from solid hardwood, kiln or air dried depending on the season, allowing the timber to stabilise before upholstery begins. The legs are kept simple and practical, finished to suit the leather rather than draw attention away from it. A line of hand-fitted studding runs around the base, tying the piece back to traditional Chesterfield detailing.

Available in a range of sizes, this footstool works equally well paired with a sofa, placed in front of an armchair, or used as a low coffee table with a tray. Like all our furniture, it’s made to order rather than pulled from stock, with a typical lead time of 4–6 weeks.

• Clean stains with light warm soapy water and wash again with clean cold water. Pat dry or lightly with a hair dryer. Then buff up.
• Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent possible fading.
• Do not use abrasive and chemical materials such as sandpaper, alcohol, bleach for cleaning the surfaces.
• Protect from contact with sharp and hard objects.
• The leather can be cared for once a year, using a semi-analine cream added sparingly and buffed up.
